Located just yards from Central Park and Times Square, the public plaza at 1221 Avenue of the Americas forms part of the larger Rockefeller Center complex. As a pivotal point within Midtown Manhattan’s dense urban grid, the renovated plaza reimagines a transition space between street level, retail destinations and underground transit infrastructure.
The transformation encompasses 2,000 square metres of public space and 6,000 square metres of retail, spanning two interconnected areas: East Plaza at sidewalk level and Concourse Plaza on the level below. A wide central staircase connects the two, the stair offers seating, fosters informal social interaction and creates a seamless link between levels.
