Anchoring a major urban transformation in the southern quadrant of Milan, the new A2A Headquarters combines a 144-metre-tall high-rise with the adaptive reuse of existing buildings to form a contemporary corporate campus for the italian multi-utility company.
Located between the Porta Romana district and the former rail yard, now home to the 2026 Olympic Village, the project is part of a broader urban regeneration program by the Municipality of Milan aimed at reactivating a key north–south axis linking Via Crema and Piazza Trento with the Symbiosis district and Fondazione Prada. By introducing new public plazas, green corridors and pedestrian links, conceived as integral parts of the project, the design positions the A2A campus as a catalyst for sustainable, polycentric urban growth.
The asymmetrical glass-clad tower alludes to the silhouette of a lighthouse tilted towards the city and emerges as a reinterpretation of the types of industry that once characterized this part of Milan. Its sculptural form is articulated around a tripartite vertical sequence: a double-height lobby that opens onto the street, a Sky Garden offering social and biophilic respite at mid-height and a Belvedere at the top.
Flexible interior layouts accommodate up to 1,500 people and reflect new ways of working—informal, adaptive and interconnected. Natural light, integrated greenery and continuous spatial flow shape an interior landscape that prioritizes wellbeing and encourages social interaction. A shared green courtyard between old and new buildings reinforces this dialogue, functioning as both connective tissue and workplace amenity.
