The competition entry for the new major public library Biblioteca Europea di Informazione e Cultura (BEIC) proposes a piece of architecture that emerges as a shared, multipurpose, unexpected and inclusive public place.
The multidisciplinary team for the project generated solutions that promote the health and well-being of users by encouraging pedestrian and bicycle transport, prioritizing the use of renewable resources, limiting water waste, increasing green and permeable areas, and raising awareness on environmental issues.
The concept encourages cultural and experiential participation by offering a laboratory that responds to the needs of the local community. By blending the characteristics of an open public library with those of a state-of-the-art research library, the building complex realizes a vision where everyone can play an active role and contribute to shared cultural production.
