The winning competition entry for the requalification of the “Ex Manifattura Tabacchi” site in Verona proposes hotel facilities, retail areas and a congress center in a complex that reshapes the entrance of the city. In addition to marking a threshold between the inside and the outside of the city, the building’s two distinct facades mirror the duality of the building’s public and private uses by evoking the dynamism of commercial flows along with the stable composure of a hotel room. Enclosing the building in a crystal box, the use of stone and glass cross-contaminate the traditions of the past and the innovations of the present.
